Morjim

Unfortunately the tide had just turned as we arrived at Morjim so there weren’t really the expected amount of gulls there. It must have been a fairly low tide as they’d started to head back to the sand bank further out.

We easily picked up Lesser Sand Plover as there were good numbers on the beach along with a few Greater Sand Plover and a handful of Broad-billed Sandpipers – lifers for both Ian and myself.

Stonking views of Pallas’s Gulls – probably my *bird of the day*. Steppe Gulls, Brown-headed, Black-headed and Slender-billed Gulls along with Lesser Crested Terns also there and added to the list. We witnessed an interesting aerial tussle between a White-bellied Sea Eagle and an Osprey.

Very brief view of Barred Button Quail but not really good enough to put on my list :-( Searched a nearby area for Bay-backed Shrike with no luck and along the nearby dunes for Brahminy Starling. Still no luck! We did find a Grey-bellied Cuckoo though and had great views.

Headed for the beach at Asvem. Nice quiet-ish beach – a real change from the throng at Baga and Calangute. Swim in the sea. Lounged on the beach. Lunch in the shack there with Alan and Yvette then left at around 3pm to call in at Little Morjim beach to search for Turnstones. Lovely beach with palms right down to the sand.
